Lisa Richards
Artist
I live in South Devon a few
minutes walk from the sea, with
the outstandingly beautiful
South Hams countryside nearby.
With the scenic coastline, wild
flora and fauna, changing with
the seasons, I feel extremly
privileged to have this endless
inspiration on my doorstep to
explore in my paintings.
I paint in acrylics, oils, inks and pastels. Seduced by colour and texture I find myself creating spontaneous and uplifting responses to natures elements and the environment. I pour flick, dab and rub paints onto canvas and board, using my fingers, brushes and sponges to add detail. The results are always a surprise as my paintings evolve as an emotional response to a journey or experience. I aim to capture the essence of a place rather than create a purely visual representation.
I love to paint outside but finish most of my
work in the studio.
Part of my first shared exhibition in Artizan Gallery in Torquay.
Biography
As an artist I am largely self taught and began my creative career in textiles, desiging and making wedding dresses, then redirecting to jewellery design, specialising in tiara's and bridal accessories.
In 2004, when my son went to secondary school I went to work in a primary school and became the art specialist, teaching the art lessons, fulfilling my love of working with children and my passion for art. Only then did I go back to college part time to study fine art and then began a degree course with the Open College of the Arts, which I will complete, one day!
Through my teaching I found I was inspired to paint more and more and I now share my time between teaching art to children and adults and being a professional artist.
